Reviews
The coffee was good, the atmosphere is cozy.
But we had a bad experience with fondue: we got four, while ordered only one. And we had to pay for it. It was not tasty, unfortunately.
A gem of a restaurant right in the centre of Gouda, behind De Waag. The service is very friendly and attentive. A nice menu selection with, as the name suggests, cheese or meat dishes. But they also offer vegetarian and even vegan choices. A great place to have dinner after visiting the city. A nice last factoid, every table has a light that turns red when turned, to discretely get the attention of the waiter. Warmly recommended!
Gouda is the city of cheese; what better way to enjoy cheese than to also enjoy the animal where it came from: the cow!
Koeien en Kaas is an amazing restaurant with a rustic vibe in the center of Gouda.
They have a large menu with of course steaks, but also cheese dishes, fish dishes and surprisingly even vegatarian dishes.
Although the restaurant is great and the food tastes amazing, it is a shame that they only serve 'mainstream' parts of the cow even though there is so much more to the rest of the animal: tail, head, neck, etc.
It would be nice if 'Koeien en Kaas' would serve more of the 'koe' instead of only the main body.
They surprisingly also do not have many options for cheese, other than tasting menus or fondue.
There are 2 dining halls, 1 on ground level and one on the first floor. The toilets are also on the first floor and only accessible by stairs, which means wheelchair users can not go to the toilet here.
Great food. Fondue abundant and delicious. Price is good.
Not child-friendly (there are no options for them-only for the adults). And the service was very bad. Over 2 hours for a table of 3(well serving 2) with a cold starter and a fondue. Place was not crowded even!
The best meat we had!!! Everything was fresh and amazing. The philly cheese steak was unbelievable, the brisket was cooked perfectly and the sliders too. Will definitely go back again and try different things. Thank you so much for the incredible experience.
Gouda fondue was tasteless and tasted like flour. No cheese taste at all. The potatoes were frozen and there was mostly cherry tomatoes with a few bread pieces on top. Meat platter was disgusting. I never got my fries. Very DISAPPOINTED. Will not come back, and I don't understand why people rave about the fondue.
Horrible experience. This Wednesday evening, we got arranged a table outside, and after 5 mins the staff came over asked us drink order, but we didn't even receive drink menu, then the drinks came up with one drink missing. Then we waited and waited for at least 10 mins to finally receive the food menu, and then we waited and waited until we decided we are leaving. The tables around us has their table cleaned and Bill delivered, but we got really poor attention. The waitress even had attitude when we told her we are not having any thing to eat. What a joke, worst service ever.
Gouda - the Dutch Capital of Cheese and this is a good place to celebrate a cheesy dinner.
